The Ìlera Èkó scheme is a social health insurance plan that aims to provide affordable and quality health services to all residents of Lagos state, especially the vulnerable and indigent ones. The scheme is managed by the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) and covers primary and some secondary health benefits.
The UHC Adoption Tree Project is an initiative designed to secure alternative funding from a variety of sources to cover the basic health care of vulnerable Nigerians. It is powered by SaltinGStein Limited in partnership with the State Health Insurance Schemes. The initiative plays a pivotal role in closing the health gaps, guaranteeing equitable and comprehensive healthcare access for all, and making universal health coverage a reality in Nigeria.
Adoption is the process of funding the health insurance premium for the vulnerable population under the UHC Adoption Tree project.
The Ilera Eko scheme is open to all residents of Lagos state, regardless of their age, gender, occupation, or income level. The scheme is mandatory for all public servants, formal sector workers, and organized groups. The scheme is also voluntary for individuals, families, and informal sector workers. The scheme also covers vulnerable individuals such as the poor, the disabled, and the victims of violence.
Vulnerable people are people who do not have access to and cannot afford to pay for quality healthcare. They suffer catastrophic consequences from out-of-pocket expenses. Categories of vulnerable people vary from orphans, to widowed, to the elderly, to the disabled, to pregnant women and so on and so forth.

The benefits of the Ìlera Èkó scheme include: Access to affordable and quality health services from a wide range of primary health centers in all local governments of the state.
The Ìlera Èkó scheme Covers primary and some secondary health benefits such as registration and consultation, specialized care, treatment of common ailments such as Malaria and Typhoid fever, childhood illnesses, eye care, family planning services, child welfare services, hospital care and admission, pharmaceutical care, blood transfusion, chronic disease, and HIV/AIDS. Additional benefits such as telemedicine, medical evaluation and repatriation for the diaspora health plan.
The cost of the Ìlera Èkó scheme depends on the health plan you choose. There are two major health plans under the Ilera Eko scheme: the Individual Ìlera Èkó Plan and the Family Ìlera Èkó Plan.

The Individual Ìlera Èkó Plan is a basic health insurance plan that covers one person for primary and some secondary health benefits under the mandatory Lagos State Health Scheme and Ilera Eko range of plans and it costs N8,500 per annum.

The Family Ìlera Èkó Plan is a basic health insurance plan that covers a family of six (father, mother, and four children under 23 years) for the same benefits as the individual Ìlera Èkó plan. The plan costs N40,000 per annum or N3,333 per month and has the same features as the individual plan.

No. Donors can adopt as many people as they can afford, because the target for the UHC Adoption Tree project in Lagos is to raise adequate funding for the health insurance coverage of 8 million vulnerable Lagos residents by 2030.
The Ìlera Èkó health insurance plan covers the basic healthcare of an individual for one year and needs to be renewed every year.

The Lagos state government achieves universal health coverage and poverty reduction.
